Google Voice on iTunes has now been updated to version 1.3.1.1891 from the previous 1.3.0.1771. The announcement comes close on the heels of reports of the app troubling users with a crash at sign in as admitted by the developers who’ve announced a fix for it.

Running on iOS 3.0 or higher versions of the mobile OS, the app enables the sending of free messages to other phones in the U.S. Through the Voice number, international calls can be made at low rates. For dealing with the international billing smoothly, users can auto-recharge their account by visiting the billing page and selecting the recharge amount.

Google Voice automatically charges the credit card on file for the selected amount when users’ calling credit dips below $2 or €2. Earlier this month, Google had incorporated support for MMS in Google Voice. It enables users to receive pictures and other multimedia messages from Sprint subscribers. Through the addition, users can also view the multimedia attachments on their mobile phone and in the email inbox.

Google Voice comes integrated with Google Takeout which enables all the data associated with the Voice account including call history, voicemail messages, greetings and call recordings to be available for download. While voicemail messages and greetings are transferred as mp3s, text messages and forwarding phone numbers are exported in the form of microformatted html and a vcard, respectively.

The updated Google Voice app can now be downloaded from the iTunes store for free.
