Sprint Wireless CapTel app reels out conversations in captions

Sprint Wireless CapTel App

The new Sprint Wireless CapTel powered by Raketu is an Android app which lets users read conversations in real time with the help of word-for-word captions. It enables users with hearing disabilities to peruse conversations on their wireless phones and is available for select device running on Google’s mobile OS.

The application directly connects callers to the CapTel service when the phone is dialed. When those on the other end receive the call, users can listen to what the other person is saying as well as read the provided captions on the phone’s display screen in real time.

“Sprint Relay is pleased to add another groundbreaking solution to its portfolio – and bring to the market a service that improves our customers’ experience,” commented Mike Ellis, director-Sprint Relay.

Built for running on Android 2.2 or higher versions, this new app lets users make a call in the same way they would with a traditional phone, by dialing the number directly on the mobile phone. Capable of working on 3G, 4G and Wi-Fi, the service comes with in-built voicemail and doesn’t require any voice plan to function.

The company has employed voice recognition technology for its new application to deliver captions of almost everything the caller says. Users only have to distribute their specialized Wireless CapTel phone number to friends and family for receiving captions on every call. Calls made from this app are automatically routed through a captioning service.

The Sprint Wireless CapTel app can now be downloaded from the Android Market for free.
