Google Nexus 7 tablet put through iFixit teardown

Not many people may be able to survive the heartbreak of new gadget being dismantled unnecessarily, but the folks at iFixit are taking it all in their stride and giving the Google Nexus 7 the teardown treatment. So anyone curious about the device’s innards should be properly satisfied by this tidbit.

Recounting the major tech specs of the slate, it has a 7-inch 1280 x 800p HD touchscreen protected by scratch-resistant Corning glass. Running Jelly Bean, or Android 4.1, it uses a quad core Tegra 3 CPU and supports Bluetooth as well as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity. The 4325mAh battery beneath the hood is expected to offer up to 9 hours of HD video playback and there’s just a single 1.2MP camera on the front panel.

Now zooming back to what can be seen within the chassis, Hydis has been revealed as the display’s manufacturer and there’s a pair of speaker drivers. The 0.4mm difference in profile thickness between the new iPad and Google tablet is credited to the latter’s rear cover being easier to open. That’s a brownie point in favor of the Nexus slab considering it gets 7 out of 10 on the ‘Repairability Score’ as compared to the measly 2 earned by the latest iPad. Also, the former’s battery life beats the Kindle Fire’s by almost 2 hours.

Just for refresher’s sake, the Google Nexus 7 price in the US is $199 and it can be pre-booked through Google Play. Anyone brave enough to give it an iFixit-style teardown is welcome to send us a YouTube video link of the same.
