Google Keep pulls a disappearing act just hours after going live

The Google Keep service was pulled down by the developer soon after it went live online, following a leak which revealed that such a tool was in the making. The app is a note-taking tool which supposedly shares a lot of similarities with the company’s now defunct application, Notebook.

Google Keep’s blink and miss act did not go unnoticed, as Android Police caught more than just a mere glimpse of the service and even managed to get a few screenshots of the utility. According to them, the app provides a list of notes which can be color coded and archived as well. The records will then be stored at the bottom of the directory. In addition to these, users will be able to save pictures and also make checklists. All these features led to the comparison between the obsolete service and the impending one.

Google Keep Icon

One of the images captured shows off a list and a thumbnail view, with the source opining that the former doesn’t quite function as it should. This could probably be because it is still in the development phase. They have even illustrated this shortcoming in one of their screenshots. Furthermore, a search bar has been incorporated into the whole set-up which really doesn’t come as a surprise.

Earlier, it was reported that the unreleased version of the application had been spotted in Drive’s source code. At that time, it went by the codename of ‘Memento’ and had an accompanying icon that gelled well with the company’s Drive logo. What had intrigued them even more was the fact that when they typed in the URL for the app, it brought up a 404 page that wasn’t in the usual layout.

Color Code

What was further observed was that when the Mountain View company had exposed photos of Instant Preview in the hope of promoting the tool, they had overlooked the ‘Add to Google Keep’ link that appeared at the bottom of the interface. Presumably, the latest application should be able to save bits and pieces of web pages directly from a search page.

Instant Preview

The Google Keep utility was supposed to come in a version that would have been usable on Android devices as well. This was discovered when the source attempted to access g.co/keep website and was instead redirected to the Play store. Now, with the desktop version playing hide and seek with prospective consumers, it would probably be safe to assume that the wait might not be so long after all.
