Gmail for Android update launched, permits users to reply from notifications bar

The Gmail for Android update has rolled out to customers, grabbing our attention with an announcement on the service’s official blog. The latest version brings to the fore a few additions for the Jelly Bean platform.

To complement the expanded notifications trait of the Android environment, Google has included an option in Gmail that makes use of this very attribute. The aforesaid characteristic groups related items together and even allows users to preview their messages from the alerts interface itself. It permits them to take actions like responding or dismissing it from the drop-down menu.

Gmail notification

Previously, the tool allowed managing of multiple accounts and viewing as well as saving of attachments. With this update, consumers can reply to their e-mails from the notifications bar along with being able to archive or delete the items as well. These can be brought into effect with just a single tap. This integration eliminates the need of opening up the application to carry out all the mentioned tasks.

When used in conjunction with the platform’s existing features, the app can be personalized in such a way that customers can be made aware of only those e-mails that they would want to receive and they can also allot different sounds for individual tags. Owing to this, users will be able to identify the sender once messages are labeled as well as filtered and a special ringtone has been set for the contact.

The developer claims that the new and improved app would now have the ability to bring about faster searches and better results. This would aid users in finding their mails quickly irrespective of whether they are connected to the internet or not. The company has not ignored Ice Cream Sandwich and Froyo or later consumers and has introduced upgrades for them as well. Back in December last year, the company had bumped up the application to version 4.2.1.

Users of version 4.0 of the OS will be exposed to expedited online and offline searches. Other accretions include bug fixes amongst others. For 2.2 and later, on the other hand, the app will contain a new labels API for interested third-party developers. Performance enhancements have been incorporated in both editions.
