Version 6.2 of Google Earth is now accessible through smartphones as well as tablets operating on the iOS and Android platforms. The overhauls brought forth by this update include KML support, sharing abilities and so on.

KML or Keyhole Markup Language files are a feature of Google Earth which enables users to view custom maps and overlays. Such content can now be easily used through mobile devices. Apart from this, the Google Earth Gallery has been made available through this upgraded version. The collection shows off some specific maps from around the world like real time earthquakes, Rome in 3D and many more.

“One of the most powerful features of Google Earth is the ability to view custom maps or overlays, which are also commonly known as KML files. Ever since we introduced Google Earth on mobile devices, users have requested support for custom content. Today, we are proud to announce Google Earth 6.2 for Android and iOS, which includes support for KMLs. Now anywhere you find a ‘Google Earth file’ (KML file) while you’re browsing the mobile web, just click on the link and the Google Earth app will automatically launch and load the custom map,” conveys Peter Birch, Google Earth Product Manager through the official Google Lat Long blog.

Specifically for Android loyalists, the new edition is introducing the Share attribute. It will permit users to share Google Earth content with friends through Gmail, people included in Google+ circles as well as several other applications. In addition to this, those following the Google Earth+ page can discover fresh locations and even share them conveniently.

Google Earth 6.2 for Android and iOS is available through Google Play and iTunes, respectively.
