Fujifilm targets Rs 120 crore sales from instant cameras in India

Fujifilm is aiming for sales figures of Rs 120 crores through its Instax series of instant cameras in India during the next fiscal year. The company hopes the nation will contribute up to 8% of its worldwide sales within the next 5 years.

The Japan-based Fujifilm is trying to appeal to younger crowds with its smartphone printer and mini camera range. It introduced three new models on October 1, dubbed the Instax mini 70. The devices come in yellow, blue and white colors. They output credit-card sized photos and are equipped with a selfie mirror to check the framing of an image.

Yasunobu Nishiyama, Fujifilm’s India Managing Director, told PTI the brand is hoping to sell up to 100000 units of its instant cameras during the current financial year. This would result in sales worth Rs 60 crore, which could get doubled to 120 crores in FY 2016 – 17. He thinks the gadgets are ideal for young Indians and have been designed to suit their needs.

The Instax series arrived in the country earlier this year and are currently available in approximately 300 stores. Fujifilm is seeking to expand its sales coverage by adding between 50 – 100 outlets every month. It’s also looking into increasing sales through e-commerce sites. Nishiyama expects one-third of its sales to come from online portals.

Fujifilm’s instant cameras have a presence in over 60 countries so far, with the company hoping to sell at least 5 million units in the current fiscal. It has received a positive response from developed markets like the US, in addition to developing countries such as China. India is currently among its fastest growing markets, with the nation’s percentage growth apparently higher than more established regions like Europe.
