Evernote acquires Skitch, releases Android app

Evernote Skitch App

Evernote has developed Skitch as a mobile application, launching it for Android devices. This announcement comes after Evernote’s acquisition of Skitch with its co-founders Cris Pearson and Keith Lang joining forces with the former.

Skitch is an image annotation app. it allows users to draw, write or scribble creatively over images. To start with, several options are provided by the top row action bar buttons and the bottom row tool bar. The action bar has buttons for functions like deletion, undo and share whereas the bar at the bottom has tools for annotation and sketching.

“As Evernote has evolved over the past several years, we’ve seen a tremendous growth in the types of the things our users wish to capture and remember. Image annotation, sketching and sharing has been among our most requested features. We’re excited to have Skitch join the Evernote family. Not only will we be able to significantly broaden the reach of their product, but we will also greatly improve our own capabilities. This is a huge step forward for our company,” commented Phil Libin, CEO of Evernote.

With this acquisition, users can now use both Evernote and Skitch mobile apps together. An image can be dragged from Evernote, annotated in Skitch, and put back in its place. Also with both apps installed on Android devices, a simple tap on the Evernote icon would suffice to send images from Skitch. The company has also said that in near future, the two apps would be made more compatible with each other and also easier to use.

The Skitch mobile app for Android smartphones can be downloaded from the Android market .Users new to Skitch can use their Evernote details to sign in. Also, existing Skitch users can continue to use their accounts in the same manner. The app is currently available for Macs and is soon expected for iPhone as well.
