Those thinking of buying a new device in the New Year as a present for themselves or others could find the arrival of the Ectaco jetBook Color eReader in January quite interesting. This tablet joins the fast growing breed of eReading devices already in the market and comes embedded with a 9.7-inch 1600 x 1200p Triton Color E Ink screen display.

This Ectaco offering was previously launched in the markets of Eastern Europe. The company claims that after their product gained popularity in the region, it decided to launch this eReader globally. According to Ubergizmo, the success of this device in European regions could be attributed to the fact that it had been localized with support for 15 different languages commonly spoken in the continent.

Capable of lending support to Wi-Fi, the jetBook Color is incorporated with the text-to-speech functionality that orally reads out any desired book. The slate is said to be apt for students who need help doing their homework as it comes equipped with a variety of options for providing them with the necessary study material. This includes an interactive SAT course, graphic and scientific calculators, vocabulary builder, talking Oxford dictionaries and a speed reading course.

Besides these features, students can also make use of the integrated interactive periodic table of elements, graphic dictionaries in 38 languages and a rapid course of English as well as foreign language grammar. The eReader offers users reference materials for various subjects like math, physics, chemistry, biology, geography and earth science. Furthermore, it provides wireless access to online textbooks and supports up to 32GB memory via the microSD card slot.

The Ectaco jetBook Color eReader price reads $499.95 and it is expected to commence shipping on January 15, 2012.
