Fans of the mysterious superhero from Gotham City can now spread the holiday cheer with the recent introduction of the Batman: Arkham City Lockdown app for the iPhone and iPad. The game has been created by NetherRealm Studios, the developer of the successful title, Mortal Kombat.

The newly unveiled title for iOS is based on DC Comics’ Batman license and comes incorporated with original combat gameplay that has specially been optimized for the iPad and iPhone. The Batman game makes use of the recently introduced feature in iOS 5 called AirPlay. It allows players to stream their gameplay wirelessly on the iPad 2 or iPhone 4S to the HDTV via Apple TV.

“We here at NetherRealm Studios are huge fans of Batman: Arkham City and we were very excited to develop Batman: Arkham City Lockdown to extend the franchise experience to iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The app delivers a different take on Batman gameplay in which players must combat against some of the fan favorite villains in Arkham City,” cited Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios.

Avid followers of the Batman series will encounter several of Gotham City’s famous and dangerous criminals when they don the avatar of the superhero. Some of the renowned villains that feature in the game include The Joker, Two-Face and Solomon Grundy along with a character especially developed for the iOS platform called Deathstroke. The application allows users to experience the thrill of engaging in one-on-one combat while fighting for justice in various Arkham City environments.

The Batman: Arkham City Lockdown app for iPad and iPhone is priced at $5.99 and can now be downloaded from the App Store.
