You can now book Ola, Uber cabs from Google Maps

Google Maps has just gotten a major upgrade in the form of a convenient new ride services tab. The addition will be rolled out to Android users over the next couple of days and expand to iOS devices later.

In a blog post, Google claims the upgrade will make it easier to travel in metros. It’s usually difficult to judge which mode of transport is the quickest way to go from location A to B . The company has so far tried to resolve this dilemma by letting users know how long driving, walking or public transport may take.

The new ride tab in Google Maps lets users have even more options and control over their trip. The brand had previously only provided information for taxi aggregator Uber for such services. This has now changed with added support for Ola Cabs in India, 99Taxis in Brazil, mytaxi in Germany and Spain, Hailo in the UK and Spain, and Gett in the UK.

Consumers in India can choose between uberGO, uberX, Ola Mini, Ola Micro and Ola Sedan options. They’ll be able to view pickup times and approximate fairs for each, in addition to whether it’s present near their location. Note that this only works if the user has either company’s app installed in their smartphone.

Once a choice has been made, all a person has to do is tap on an option. This action will lead them directly to the Ola or Uber app, allowing them to book their cab from there. In-app integration would probably be faster, but isn’t likely to be added. Still, at least the hassle of opening multiple apps has effectively been reduced.

You can download Google Maps via the Play Store or iTunes.
