RIM’s web store renamed BlackBerry World, to include music, videos and more

It may have come to some people’s attention that BlackBerry World is the name that RIM prefers its web store to be called from now onwards. While we wait for the BB10 OS to officially make an entrance, the OEM has given us one more thing to think about. It also claims that the fresh branding is only a small part of what the app outlet has in store for its users.

RIM explains that BlackBerry World will serve as a ‘one-stop shop’ for all of BB owners’ entertainment needs, and for a valid reason too. No more will the web store be limited to just apps and games, but it will also go on to include videos as well as music. What’s more, the guys at the official BlackBerry Blog speak of more ways than one when it comes to browsing and downloading. Not only this, users will be faced with multiple choices for buying and managing their tools as well.

In cases where owners find something worth letting their peers know about, they will be able to share it over BBM or social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. It will also be possible to transfer tools as well as discover new ones using the NFC capability. The store brings in a host of apps which have been customized exclusively for some of the Canadian company’s smartphones, few of which include the BB 9315, 8100, 8120 and 9100.

Apart from these, there will be business apps and also provided will be the tools and support to develop apps. Users will moreover be able to access, filter and rate utilities that they find appealing and can also opt to notify their BBM friends about all their downloaded apps. The blog goes on to point out that the web storefront will be the first to witness these changes before they are passed on to the Playbook tablet followed by other smartphones.

The BlackBerry World badge will show up on the web store only after users upgrade to a fresh version of the app. As of now, the storefront has yet to undergo modifications on other entertainment departments, which we believe should take place in the weeks to come.
