BlackBerry 9720 looks to recapture lost ground in India with Rs 15,990 price tag

The launch of the BlackBerry 9720 in India took place earlier today in Mumbai, and the BB 7.1 OS equipped smartphone has been placed by the company at Rs 15,990. With its release date set for September 14, this device will become the cheapest BlackBerry phone to be brought out this year, for even the competitively priced Q5 has its cost running up to around Rs 25,000. The Z10 and the Q10 on the other hand, have their prices placed way higher than that.

While this phone does kick in a touch panel and the trademark BlackBerry QWERTY keyboard, the fact that it runs the old BB 7.1 OS might put off some. It features a 2.8-inch touchscreen display which showcases its visuals with an HVGA resolution of 480 x 360 pixels, at 214ppi. Sized at 114mm x 66.33mm x 12.07mm, the handset tips the scales at 120 grams.

A 5MP EDOF camera sensor finds its way onto its rear surface, while a flash and 4X zoom also accompany this shooter. There’s no front-facing snapper present on it however. The BlackBerry 9720’s 806MHz Tavor MG1 processor is accompanied by 512MB worth of RAM. Moreover there’s 512MB of internal storage available as well, but a microSD card slot enables expansions of up to 32GB.

Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS make up for its connectivity options, while sensors for proximity and ambient light can also be found on it. This phone is backed by a 1450mAh removable battery which can clock in up to 7 hours of talktime.

Like we said, the BlackBerry 9720 will be made available in India at a price of Rs 15,990 from September 14 onwards.
