Next version of Android to be Ladoo or Lassi, propose Indian fans

Google follows a specific naming pattern for its Android platform which works in alphabetical order. We’re now down to the letter ‘K’ which will be represented by the treat KitKat instead of the highly anticipated Key Lime Pie desert, for version 4.4. While it’s anyone’s guess what the codename the next version will feature, enthusiasts and fans in India are proposing that Google should go with local delicacies such as Ladoo or even Lassi.

Indians sure have a sweet-tooth and also the will to get their opinions across as both names have been recommended to Android’s main man, Sundar Pichai. Two separate campaigns have been initiated, one strongly suggesting that Ladoo is what could make Android ‘sweet’ and the other which has been started by students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, promoting the beverage-cum-desert Lassi, as a viable contender.

In the past, recommendations were made for Android 4.4 to be the Indian sweet KajuKatli. Supporters had set up a dedicated website and even mailed a few boxes containing the sweets to Larry Page and Andy Rubin. The Android team is expected to receive a package of ladoos very soon. If you’re interested in supporting this desert, head over to the campaign page by clicking here, while Lassi promoters have published an informal open letter online.

In the end, it all depends on Google to finalize which desert earns the right to be the next version of Android. Even through KajuKatli didn’t make it as version 4.4, imagine the next version of Android being promoted with the beloved green guy taking a bite off a round ladoo or saying cheers holding a glass of Lassi – Do you think it would be feasible on a global scale?
