Best Buy gave away free pieces of the 8GB iPhone 3GS for a day to its customers. This free devices were offered to those customers who signed in a new two-year agreement with AT&T or renewed their previous contract.
The free smartphone were picked by consumers on Monday, August 22 from Best Buy stores till the availability of stocks, revealed Best Buy forums. The iPhone 3GS has been available at $50 from AT&T stores for a while and this opportunity to procure an Apple smartphone without any cost was quite a rare one.
Although the iPhone 3GS is now a somewhat outdated device, it’s still a big deal for Apple to be offering its product for free. This 2009 handset offers a 3MP camera, a 3.5-inch 480 x 320-pixel display and support for AT&T’s 3G network. It is also capable of accommodating GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11b/g, Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR and up to 5 hours of talk time.
The sale was most probably conducted for Best Buy to make space for the new Apple entrant, the iPhone 5. It has been widely speculated that the latest device will be releasing in October. It will apparently operate on Apple’s dual-core A5 processor and feature an 8MP camera along with iOS 5. The smartphone is also said to come equipped with panorama photography features and the voice-based navigation system.
