BBC iPlayer App

The popular BBC iPlayer app has now been updated with AirPlay streaming. This 1.2.5 upgrade will allow users with Apple devices running iOS 5 to instantly view videos from their mobile devices on their TV’s at home.

The BBC iPlayer app offers a selection of classic and contemporary British shows on demand such as Doctor Who, Top Gear and Gavin & Stacey. The updated iPlayer app now introduces AirPlay support for enabling streaming of content from any iOS device to the HDTV via Apple TV. This update could be beneficial for those who don’t receive BBC content on their home TVs as they can now enjoy shows from the channel on their big screen TVs.

This application allows for high quality video and audio streaming over Wi-Fi or 3G networks. Users can browse through the various shows according to the genre, most popular, just in and A–Z categories. They are also enabled to download program episodes when offline and view those which have not been broadcast outside UK. Shows of different genres including comedy, drama, science and nature, family and kids, music, culture, news specials and documentaries, among others are available via this application.

The BBC iPlayer app for iOS can now be downloaded for free from the App store. While some content is free, most others would need a $7.99 monthly subscription to be enjoyed.
