AT&T HTC Vivid ICS update now rolling out

An Ice Cream Sandwich update is now available for all AT&T HTC Vivid handsets. This upgrade will gradually roll out to some more Android based smartphones in the network carrier’s lineup.

ICS is the fourth and latest version of the Android mobile platform which was released late last year along with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Prior to its release, the most speculated feature of this imminent OS was its optimization for both tablets and smartphones. Some of its highlighted features include a refreshed user interface, resizable widgets, visual voicemail, Android Beam, Face Unlock and more.

Recently, Samsung also announced the overhaul for a select pick of gadgets in its Galaxy series. Following the upgrade for the HTC Vivid, devices like LG Nitro, Motorola Atrix 2, Motorola Atrix 4G, Pantech Burst, Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, Pantech Element, Samsung Captivate Glide, Samsung Galaxy Note as well as Samsung Galaxy S II are scheduled to receive this software revamp.

According to AT&T, Vivid is the first U.S. smartphone to be raised to Ice Cream Sandwich as an update. Also, it is said to be the only one to be issued by a wireless carrier till date. Apart from other usual features which will be brought in with this OS, the operator is even releasing additional characteristics for HTC handsets. This list includes Beats By Dr. Dre Audio enhancements in the firmware.

The AT&T HTC Vivid ICS refresh is now available over Wi-Fi through the service provider’s website. Users who do not have access to a Wi-Fi connection can download it on a PC and install it via sideload.
