Apple marks September 10 for new iPhone event?

Apple has apparently pegged September 10 as the launch date for its new iPhone or iPhones, whichever be the case. Since all the rumors we’ve heard so far have put down the number to at least two iPhone releases before the holiday season, we’re assuming that more than one iOS handset will indeed make their debut on the said day.

The news comes from AllThingsD which cites unnamed sources while talking about the date on which Apple is purported to unveil the devices. Over the past few months, we’ve been hearing about a new color for the smartphone, various interesting additions including back buttons for it and then some. But the one of the highlighted speculations has to do with reports that Cupertino will finally give in to competition from rivals and finally release a budget handset.

Companies like Samsung, HTC and LG have been making it a very tough battle indeed. The reality of it is that Android has become more of a thorn in Apple’s side than these various manufacturers put together. We’re not saying that the aforementioned companies haven’t been knocking together great hardware, but where would the smartphone market be without Google’s mobile OS? So a cheap iPhone in various hues is whispered to be on the menu, though believable images of it are yet to surface.

The post we’re referring to notes that Apple has made a routine of announcing its upgraded iOS software at the developer show in June and then putting forth the next generation hardware after a month or two of testing. Since we’ve been seeing plenty of headlines hazarding a guess at the release date of upcoming iOS phones, we’re not going to chew on this latest tidbit without the usual seasoning of salt. Stay tuned for more.
