Apple announces iOS Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru

Apple has officially announced its plans to open a new Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru to accelerate the growth of India’s iOS ecosystem. The declaration coincides with the arrival of the brand’s CEO Tim Cook to the country in an effort to boost the company’s image in the nation.

The Apple Design and Development Accelerator is looking to provide resources and specialized support to engineering talent within India’s iOS developer community. The team behind the initiative is supposed to instruct developers on best practices, aid them in sharpening their skills, and enhancing the design, quality and performance of their applications.

The facility is set to be staffed by Apple experts who are going to lead briefings and supply one-on-one app reviews for developers. The center is further supposed to provide support and guidance for Swift, the manufacturer’s programming language necessary to build apps for iOS, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac.

Apple touts that Swift allows engineers to write safe and reliable code which saves time and leads to richer app experiences. In a press statement, Cook praised India as the home to one of the most vibrant and entrepreneurial iOS development communities in the world. He believes the project will lead to people creating innovative apps for customers around the globe.

The Apple Design and Development Accelerator is expected to open its doors by early 2017. While Cook’s schedule hasn’t been made official yet, the CEO is rumored to be meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and open Foxconn’s local iPhone manufacturing base.
