Android Market marks 10 billion downloads, offers select apps for a dime

Since its introduction, the number of applications downloaded from the Android Market has reached 10 billion and the numbers just keep going higher. The developers also report this rate to be nearly one billion downloads per month.

To celebrate this milestone, the apps marketplace which houses several applications created for the Android OS by creators from all around the world will play along to a limited period special offer. Joining forces with the respective developers, Google is now saying that some of the paid apps on the market can be grabbed at a mere 10 cents. The curtains will drop down on the deals on December 15, or next Thursday.

“One billion is a pretty big number by any measurement. However, when it’s describing the speed at which something is growing, it’s simply amazing. This past weekend, thanks to Android users around the world, Android Market exceeded 10 billion app downloads—with a growth rate of one billion app downloads per month. We can’t wait to see where this accelerating growth takes us in 2012,” conveyed Eric Chu, Director, Android Developer Ecosystem on the official Google Mobile blog.

The list presently includes titles like Swiftkey X, Asphalt 6 HD, Soundhound Infinity, Fieldrunners HD and Great Little War Game. It also goes on to include Color & Draw for Kids, Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro, Minecraft, Paper Camera, and Sketchbook Mobile. As the festivities run through, the team over at Google will keep adding assorted lists each day.

Now do we really need to mention that taking part in the 10 billion downloaded apps festivities will require a trip to the Android Market?
