Verizon Wireless has collaborated with American Express to bring Serve, a digital payment and commerce platform, for its handsets. This service is said to make it possible for several Verizon Wireless customers to establish and use a Serve account directly from their personal devices.

With a Serve account on their mobile phones, Verizon Wireless users will directly be able to make payments and redeem offers for goods and services. Serve uses the mobile number for authentication, and thus allows users to shop directly from their handsets. Along with Verizon Wireless customers, Serve application is also of convenience to merchants as it offers suitable methods of processing and settlement. Currently, all businesses in the United States who accept American Express are said to be accepting Serve card.

Greg Haller, president, Enterprise & Government for Verizon Wireless, said, “Serve provides a quick and intuitive way for our customers to use their mobile service in a refreshingly convenient way. Our commitment to building the entire mobile payments ecosystem, through our Isis joint venture and now with Serve, gives customers incredible new ways to use their mobile devices.”

Further, the two companies are also merging forces for the purpose of sourcing, distributing and simplifying redemption of online and mobile offers with participating traders, through the use of Serve account. They are also working together to enable Payfone support for Serve checkout on Verizon Wireless devices which should make it simple and secure to use the application for mobile payments.
