Airtel introduces validity-free unrestricted data packs

Airtel has introduced a new range of validity-free unrestricted data plans for its prepaid subscribers in India, claiming it’s the first to introduce such packs in the country. The offerings are set to be available to its customers in Mumbai and Delhi starting from December 23.

These unrestricted-validity data plans will not come with an expiry date. Airtel plans to launch the new tariff range across India on December 28. The prepaid packs are applicable for 2G, 3G and 4G data. Consumers in Mumbai can choose to pay Rs 22 for 30MB of data, Rs 54 for 80MB and Rs 73 for 110MB.

People residing in Delhi have the option of purchasing a Rs 24 pack for 35MB of data, a Rs 51 one for 75MB and a Rs 74 one for 110MB. In a statement, Airtel said the model offers first-time internet users the chance to go online without having to worry about when the plan will expire.

Network providers have been focused on the data sector for a while now, with profit margins on voice calling rapidly decreasing. For instance, Airtel had launched a Night Cashback scheme back in October to encourage people to access the internet at night. It promised to pay back 50% of the data consumed by a subscriber between the hours of 12 am till 6 am.

According to Airtel, internet usage is at its lowest during the night. It claimed that the initiative had been introduced as a way to pass on the benefits of this phenomenon to its customers. The service provider had later announced it was planning to sink in over Rs 60000 crore into a new program dubbed Project Leap in order to upgrade its data and voice quality in India.
