Airtel launches BBM Plan for Rs. 129 per month in India

Probably keeping in mind the growing popularity of the Black Berry Messenger service which has caught on like wildfire among the youth of India, Airtel has launched its new ‘BBM Plan’. This scheme can be subscribed by postpaid mobile customers who use BlackBerry smartphones.

According to this new plan from Airtel, users have to pay a nominal fee of only Rs. 129 per month for gaining unlimited access to the BlackBerry Messenger service as well as send 300 national messages to loved ones staying anywhere in the country. For subscribing to the ‘BBM Plan’, current and new postpaid Airtel mobile customers owning BlackBerry smartphones have to call 121 or visit their nearest Airtel postpaid activation help-desk.

Through the introduction of an affordable scheme, the network carrier aims to introduce the advantages of real time social messaging through a platform like BlackBerry Messenger, to new segments of the society who comprise of cost-conscious individuals. BBM or Blackberry Messenger is an instant messaging service which allows BlackBerry smartphone owners to send and receive short messages and attachments instantly to each other in a chat-like interface.

Airtel seems to be devising quite a few cost effective schemes as the company had earlier launched a plan for its subscribers in India to gain free access to the social networking website, Twitter through their mobile phones. Released last month, this scheme was available to postpaid as well as prepaid customers of Airtel in the country which reportedly amounts to around 170 million.
