Xiaomi MIUI 7 now available for 7 devices in India

Xiaomi has announced the stable build of its MIUI 7 OS is now live in India for 7 devices, in keeping with the promise it made just recently. Users can either choose to wait for the software to arrive OTA through the Updater app or download it directly from the brand’s website.

The beta version of MIUI 7 was first launched back in August. The OS is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and comes with a range of improvements such as a 10% increase in battery life and 30% faster response time compared to the previous ROM. The list of compatible models includes the Xiaomi Mi 3, Mi 4, Mi Note, Redmi 1S 3G, Redmi Note 4G, Redmi 2/Prime and Mi Pad.

Xiaomi has added several new features to the OS, many of them only meant for Indian users. For instance, there’s a smart SMS filter to sort out service messages into a separate Notifications tab and a Quick OTP copy tool. It also has an Interactive Visual Response (IVR) utility to display the prompts heard when calling a customer care center in the form of text.

MIUI 7 further brings a daily lock screen and Showtime feature. The former automatically changes a person’s display to a new photo every day, while the latter allows a 5-second video loop to show up when calling people instead of a profile picture. A new Data Saver tool conserves up to 50% of data by compressing app and browser usage.
