Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched a mobile app to keep people updated on the Samajwadi party’s latest activities and ventures in the state. It is available for Android, Apple and Microsoft smartphones as a free download. Since the intention is to reach as wide an audience as possible, the application serves content in Hindi and English.
All major political parties across India are moving with the times by turning to the Internet and social media to reach out to citizens. The NDA has been seen pushing its online presence quite aggressively over the past year or so. It comes as no surprise that the Samajwadi party is keen to continue engaging its supporters through the web too. And what better way to do this than via phones?
According to IAMAI (Internet and Mobile Association of India) and KPMG, the country will house roughly 236 million mobile Internet users by 2016, and more than 500 million by 2018. We’re also one of the fastest growing smartphone markets in the world. So it’s easy to see why politicians like Yadav would want to publicize their initiatives and activities through a mobile app.
