ZTE Corporation, recently celebrated its corporate milestone of reaching remarkable sales record of 100 million handsets. We’d say the company had another reason to make merry too- they released the world’s first high–end HSDPA TD-SCDMA mobile phone, the U990.
The third handset in the line of high-end TD-SCDMA handsets by ZTE, the previous two being U980 and U981, the U990 is one fast fellow. It boasts of a transmission rate of 2.8 Mbps, the fastest transmission speed among the TD-SCDMA terminals available in the market along with dual mode TD-SCDMA/EDGE support for seamless transition between the two networks.

With HDSPA speed that should reach 2.8Mbps for downlink transmission and 384kbps for uplink transmission, the U990 mobile device is powered by a Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system (that’s also a first for a ZTE handset). The highly functional phone appears to be an amazing combination of a smartphone with efficient TD-SCDMA HSDPA data transmission speed.
Additional attributes of the U990 include world-class 3G, advanced touch-screen technology and GPS/AGPS navigation technologies. Business travelers can further take complete advantage of the U990’s EDGE and backwards-compatible digital technology.
At the celebratory event, ZTE also revealed its strategic plans to expand its 3G presence. The company has apparently partnered up with the top 10 3G telecom operators in the world. The company is however tightlipped about the price and exact release date of the smart U990.
