ZTE integrates Nuance’s T9 portfolio into its line of handsets

ZTE Nuance TextNuance previously enticed iPhone users with its Dragon Dictation application which allowed them to send multilingual messages. The company has now collaborated with ZTE to provide its entire T9 predictive input portfolio which includes T9, XT9, T9 Write and T9 Trace into ZTE’s global mobile handsets. With the integration of this technology, mobile phone users can enjoy an enhanced experience of sending text messages.

ZTE is claimed to be the first manufacturer to integrate Nuance’s T9 Trace and T9 Write services. This platform will upgrade the text input capabilities into former’s line of handsets. The company can now access Nuance’s multilingual portfolio that allows them to support up to 85 languages as it is growing globally in both established and emerging markets.

Kan Yulun, CTO, handset division, ZTE Corporation, commented, “In order to continue successfully growing our global market share, we have to deliver our customers innovative yet sleek handsets that meet the various demands of their consumer base. Nuance helps us stay ahead by delivering smart, intuitive and easy-to-use speech and text input technologies, like T9 Trace and T9 Write – two very exciting continuous touch solutions that provide both ZTE and our mobile operator partners a great point of differentiation in the marketplace.”

Michael Thompson, senior vice president and general manager, Nuance Mobile, stated, “We’re seeing strong global demand for multimodal input capabilities from our partners like ZTE to further set them apart in an increasingly competitive global marketplace. The integration of the Nuance T9 across ZTE’s mobile device portfolio is a natural extension of our existing relationship in speech technology, and now we’re able to give ZTE the power to differentiate through innovation and customization.”

The T9 Write and T9 Trace technology will enable users to enjoy fast handwriting and continuous touch input delivering a better experience that eventually increases connection with others. Taking full advantage of the touchscreen interfaces of handsets based on Android or others, these services will create speed, excitement and sleek user experience.

The T9 predictive input portfolio will enable users to send text messages and emails quickly and effortlessly. It will also enable them to type URLs through any keypad format with faster speed, including standard and touchscreen 12-key and QWERTY keypads. This merger expands the global relationship of the two companies revealed in March 2010 to ship Nuance VSuite and Vocalizer speech technology on ZTE devices worldwide.
