NTT Docomo unleashes new ‘Xi’ brand name

NTT Docomo XiThe mobile terrain is buzzing with word about NTT Docomo all geared up to launch their ‘intuitive navigation’ service in the Japanese market around next month. Just last week, the company appeared to have gone through a complete makeover, revealing a brand new name and logo for its upcoming LTE next-generation mobile service in the same market.

With a brand name written ‘Xi’, the sign can be read as ‘crossy’. The letters ‘X’ and ‘i’ are crafted beautifully in a logo which appears like an infinity symbol. The company claims that the ‘X’ alphabet symbolizes both ‘connection’ and ‘infinite possibility’ whereas the ‘i’ indicates ‘individual user’ and ‘innovation’. When combined together the name depicts the bond that unites people, goods and information for creating new innovations in the future.

The service will enable downlinks of up to 75Mbps which is approximately 10 times quicker than its present FOMA 3G one. Initially, the service will be available in the Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka area. In the near future, the company will be expanding it to other major cities and additional areas as well. As soon as any customer leaves the Xi service area, they will be handed over to the FOMA network automatically.

Details for the Xi handsets, billings plans and more will be annunciated later. The company is scheduled to launch the Xi mobile service in the month of December.
