Windows Mobile to be Windows Phone

Windows Mobile 6.5 If the news reported by IntoMobile is to be believed, Microsoft is going to put an end to the usage of the term Windows Mobile. This name is going to be replaced by Windows Phone. This name change will occur with the launch of Windows Mobile 6.5.

This was done in a bid to unravel the knot caused due to the various versions of the Windows Mobile such as Windows Mobile 6.1, Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7.

Another reason for the re-christening as Microsoft puts it is that it “reflects the upcoming desktop operating system release where people away from their PC can have the same experience everywhere.”

Windows Phone aka Windows Mobile 6.5 will include new features such as backup of all SMS and email content, remote disabling of the handset and the introduction of Market Place which will be Microsoft’s iTunes.

Earlier this year, there were rumors about this transition happening. Microsoft’s website, too, featured the term Windows Phone once or twice.
