WhatsApp free voice calling feature now available on iOS devices

WhatsApp for iOS just got sweeter with its new update that brings in the free voice calling feature which was only available on Android until now. But it’s not the sole change which has arrived on version 2.12.1 of the application. Before we get into those details, some of you might still not be able to dial a contact through the messenger service even though it’s gone official on Apple’s iTunes Store.

The developers have explained that voice calling through WhatsApp for iOS will be rolled out over the next few weeks. It looks like they’re pacing themselves in order to keep things as smooth as possible since there are bound to be bugs. Having to wait for the VoIP facility even after a delayed launch (compared to Android) must be frustrating for iPhone users.

WhatsApp For iOS

As you probably know, WhatsApp voice calling consumes your data balance and not your voice minutes. It’s not limited to localities and lets you connect to friends and family all across the world. On Android devices, we’ve been seeing improvements in call audio quality over the weeks. So we guess a phased roll-out for iOS is a step in the right direction.

Version 2.12.1 of the update adds a ‘quick camera’ button to chats so that you can easily click and send pictures or videos, if not choose from recent ones. Contacts may be edited from right within WhatsApp now and multiple clips can be deployed simultaneously. Two other options that are new to the app let you crop or rotate videos before beaming them to someone.

Last but not the least, is an iOS 8 share extension. It enables users to shares images, videos or links straight to WhatsApp from other applications. The update with voice calling enabled, can be found through this link on the iTunes Store.
