Vodafone baits customers in India with 80% drop in mobile data charges and Pay as you Go

Vodafone has just rolled out a couple of really good deals involving an 80% drop in mobile internet charges across India. The entire scheme may seem just perfect if you’re a subscriber who does not consume a fixed amount of data every month.

We mean, why be tied to a prepaid or postpaid plan which charges you for a fixed scheme and then force you to browse at reduced speeds or bills you higher per KB/MB for any extra data you consume past the set limit? Vodafone has now reduced its mobile internet charge to 2p/10KB from the 10p/10KB that it was previously set at.

Vodafone Cuts Mobile Rates

Starting from November 1, 2013, all prepaid and postpaid customers will be offered data access on Pay as you Go basis at the revised rates. The new prices for the plans are the same as the ones for 3G subscribers. What’s more, roaming fees for mobile internet users when they’re outside their hometown but within the boundaries of India, have been done away with.

While carriers like Reliance and Airtel may already be looking towards 4G, the truth is that 3G is yet to be embraced by a large enough percentage of the population. Vodafone’s clearly quite keen to ensure 2G users start accessing the internet while on the go because it should help convince them to move onto 3G after that.

Back in June, the company even trialed the revised plans in 3 circles – Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, West UP and Karnataka. The experiment appears to have been successful enough to warrant a pan India launch.
