Videocon d2h adds Star Movies Select HD, Fox Life HD to its lineup

Videocon d2h has added two new HD channels to its lineup, Star Movies Select HD and Fox Life HD, which will bring its total tally to 37. That makes it second to only market leader Dish TV, which has 43 high definition channels.

Star Movies Select HD appears on channel number 258. Every month, it features two movies that haven’t been showcased in India yet, in addition to premiering a new film every day. Fox Life HD comes on channel 468 on Videocon d2h. It has a mix of scripted and non-scripted shows focusing on travel, and is offered in four languages namely, English, Hindi, Tamil and Bengali.

According to PTI, Videocon d2h has a subscriber base of 11.8 million and commanded a market share of 16.5% as of September 30, 2014. It made its debut on NASDAQ in April 2015, becoming the first Indian private company in 15 years to list overseas, as well as the first domestic media company to appear on the stock exchange.

Videocon d2h sold over 33.5% of its shares to the US-based Silver Eagle Acquisition Corporation, a move which allowed it to issue over $325 million (Rs 2015 crore) through American Depository Receipts to the public. The company’s market cap now equals around $1.15 billion, making it the most valued Indian manufacturer on NASDAQ.

India will go through the third and fourth phases of cable TV digitization by the end of 2016, so Videocon d2h could take advantage of the additional capital earned through the deal to increase its market share in the country, where it currently stands fourth. The Indian DTH market’s revenue is expected to hit $5 billion by 2020 as more subscribers are added through digitization.
