Video streaming on tablets increasing: comScore TabLens

comScore TabLens Report 01

Though the news sounds quite unsurprising, a new comScore TabLens report has revealed that most tablet users in the US apparently watch videos on their devices. Apart from this finding, the data also reveals that roughly 1 in 4 smartphone owners use tablets.

This information came forward after a team of participants were surveyed during the 3-month average period that ended in the month of April. Supposedly, tablet users were thrice as likely to peruse videos on their slabs, relative to people using smartphones. As per the statistics, 1 in 10 tablet wielders viewed clips on their slates almost on a daily basis.

“Tablets are one of the most rapidly adopted consumer technologies in history and are poised to fundamentally disrupt the way people engage with the digital world both on-the-go and perhaps most notably, in the home. It’s not surprising to see that once consumers get their hands on their first tablet, they are using them for any number of media habits including TV viewing,” commented Mark Donovan, comScore SVP of Mobile.

In terms of demographics, tablet usage appeared to be subtly more pronounced among females than males. Both for smartphones and tablets, the target audience was in the age group of 25 to 44. There was about 28% more likelihood of tablet users being in the age segment of 65 or more and 27 less chances of them being aged between 18 and 24.

Moreover, high-income households apparently opted for tablets, as seen among the participants. Another important finding was that around 1 in 4 persons amidst those viewing clips, paid for video content on their tablets. About 18.9% of the respondents watched videos every week, while nearly 9.5% did so almost every day.

Going by the comScore TabLens report, people in the US sure seem to be taking good advantage of tablets’ larger screens, over the smaller smartphone panels.
