Adventure and tripping enthusiasts may now be seen with a reason to celebrate just at the right time. Version 1.1 of REALSKI, a new augmented reality iPhone app created by Resort Technology Partners, is now up for grabs in the iTunes App Store. High on excitement, the interesting app offers more than 80 mountains in North America to choose from.

Significantly abated by technology built into the iPhone 3GS, the app helps skiing and snowboarding aficionados navigate trails and on-mountain features at some of the U.S. and the Canada’s top ski resorts. Well, after launching it, just turn on the device’s built-in camera, and move it up, down, and around to scan captivating surroundings. Digital overlays will change in real time to match what the camera sees, enabling users to find the location of facilities and points of interest.

“With a big mountain such as Whistler Blackcomb, REALSKI provides a new solution to an age-old problem: finding your way on the mountain. REALSKI is much easier to use because you don’t need zoom in and out like you do on other mobile ski maps,” stated Mark Sedgwick, director of information technology at Whistler Blackcomb. “The fact that you are instantly oriented to the surrounding that you are looking at creates a more natural and easy way for skiers to navigate.”

Moreover, the REALSKI allows users to find the named runs including skill designation such as green, blue or black in addition to directorial heading. Now tracking down lodges, restrooms, restaurants and special areas like terrain parks is made super-facile. Users can even lift names with loading and un-loading areas.

Once users download version 1.1 of REALSKI, they can make In App purchases of the AR navigation maps to North America’s most popular resorts with their iPhone 3GS. The app is now available to download from iTunes App Store for as little as 99 cents.

To notify, the app relies on the GPS, compass, camera and accelerometer to make AR work, therefore an iPhone 3GS (iPhone OS 3.1 or higher) is necessitated.
