Verizon hosting a press event to launch an iPhone?

Verizon iPhone Invite Apple has always been good at making the right buzz, we all remember the uproar that was created each time an ‘i’ device had hit the market. Something of a similar sort is currently going on in the tech world. It’s not only the CES news that has mobile buffs gripped on. A rather hush-hush hearsay has been doing the rounds in the city of New York.

According to IntoMobile, invites are being sent out for a press event at Lincoln Center in New York City by Verizon Wireless. The most interesting facet of this rumor is that the date and time have been chosen rather carefully, 1/11/11 at 11:00 am. With only four more days to go, the time gap between the press event and invite has been relatively short.

From the looks of it, Verizon surely didn’t want anything to leak out way before the invites were sent. Thus maintaining silence, the carrier appears to be gearing up for a major launch. The folks over at IntoMobile have linked this to the ongoing rumors of a Verizon iPhone. It is said that Apple employees have been informed about a vacation freeze for January and February.

Presumably, this is for the increase in sales and the requirement of their entire retail staff to support questions that pop up at the time of a new product launch. Well, with such a hefty bouquet of rumors who knows how many leaves are fresh or stale. Thankfully, this time round there are just four days to go, not a long wait is it?
