iPhone owners are enjoying the fruits of Skype video calling for quite some time now. Well, from now onwards they shall not be the only ones to enjoy the benefits. Verizon Wireless has bagged some fruits too for its subscribers. At the ongoing CES, the network operator joined hands with Skype to reveal that Skype Mobile with video will soon be available.

Verizon Wireless explains that the company will incorporate this functionality in all it’s to be launched 4G smartphones. With the introduction of the video calling facility on Skype, handset owners can now effortlessly use this function for both personal and professional reasons. Previously, the Skype for iPhone application had been upgraded to version 3.0 with the same functionality.

“Skype mobile with video is the kind of application that truly shows off what a 4G network can mean to consumers. Keeping in touch with friends and family will be more enjoyable because video calling over the fastest and most advanced 4G network is coming. Finally, using Skype mobile with video, ‘you can see what I see, and I can see what you see’ becomes reality, and it’s because of the combination of Skype and Verizon Wireless – and our 4G LTE network,” quoted Marni Walden, vice president and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless.

“We heard the demand for mobile video calling loud and clear from our users and are delighted to meet this demand with a mobile video calling product that takes advantage of Verizon Wireless’ new network in the U.S.,” stated Russ Shaw, general manager and vice president of Skype’s Mobile Business Unit. “Skype mobile with video will enable Verizon Wireless and Skype users to share special moments face to face with those who matter most – from wherever they may be.”

This service shall operate on its 4G LTE mobile broadband network. Back in the month of December last year, the carrier had launched its 4G LTE mobile broadband network in several key market segments. Android-based 4G LTE smartphones featuring front-facing and rear cameras will be able to indulge in video calls placed via Skype on Verizon’s networks.

The company claims that by mid-2011 several of these handsets will hit the market with Skype Mobile with video.
