Twitter brings pop-up notifications, tries hard not to look like Facebook

Well, maybe Twitter isn’t trying hard enough to not look like Facebook, but apart from pop-up notifications, it also revealed that a new user interface design would be forthcoming. So if you don’t like Facebook’s image-centric approach, too bad for you. Both social networks in question have been borrowing so much from each other, they’re starting to appear and act alike.

First off, you can upload a humungous cover photo spanning across the entire top half of the interface instead of just having a large one over which your squarish picture sits. For a better idea of what we’re talking about, check out the first and second images showing the new and old designs, respectively.

New Twitter

Facebook has a feature which lets you pin a post so that it stays on top of your page and gets maximum visibility. Well, the official Twitter blog has announced that it will deliver a similar function called pinned tweets so followers visiting your account will be hard-pressed to avoid noticing the tweet in question.

Clicking on another user’s account normally takes you to a page displaying everything they’ve been tweeting or retweeting, right? When the latest design change hits your area, you will be able to request to see all of that person’s tweets or tweets and replies or only tweets with photos/videos.

Old Twitter Design

When someone retweets, favorites, replies to or interacts with your tweet in any available way, you will soon be able to receive alerts for the same. These notifications will show up conspicuously when you’re signed into your account and will be fully interactive so that you can engage with them right from the pop-up window.

The settings for the last mentioned changes can be adjusted to your liking, though the design refresh to Twitter is unfortunately unavoidable.
