The updated Twitter for Android and iOS application is now on a roll bearing a handful of new features including the header photo attribute. This new highlight functions in the same manner as the ‘cover photo’ seen on Facebook.
With header photo, users will be able to upload their favorite image through a smartphone or tablet, which will be displayed to everyone who views their account. The layout will be consistent for both platforms and the picture will be visible above all tweets. The tool also provides an option for customizing background images to complement the header and profile photographs.
“Starting today you can make your presence on Twitter more meaningful with new Twitter profiles. Upload an all-new header photo on mobile apps for iPad, iPhone and Android or twitter.com, and the same image will appear whenever anyone views your profile on the web or these apps. You can upload your header photo, which appears above your Tweets, to express yourself instantly, anywhere,” commented Sachin Agarwal, Product Manager via a post on the official Twitter Blog.
Other than that, photo streams will appear below every post for users to view recently shared images at a glimpse or see fullscreen uploads by simply tapping on them. The Home, Connect, Me and Discover buttons on the iPad version are now placed on the left corner and they can be accessed with a single touch. The timeline will include images, videos and website summaries in addition to tweets.
Users will be able to keep track of their interactions and view followers through the connect feature. Also, it will provide information about the people who have retweeted or liked a post. On tapping the discover button, the tool offers popular news stories and updates about tweets and accounts liked as well as followed by others from the user’s network.
The updated Twitter for Android and iOS application is available for download via Google Play and iTunes, respectively.
