TRAI gives Green Signal to Mobile Number Portability in India by June 2009

MNP in India in June 09 Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has approved Mobile Number Portability (MNP), which is to be launched nationwide by June 2009. Mobile users have been eagerly waiting for the MNP services to be introduced in India for quite a long time and the final verdict from TRAI seems to be a pleasant one.

If you are not happy with your current service provider and are hesitant to move to another one due to the fear of losing your mobile number, here’s the much awaited MNP system which allows you to carry your original number to any provider that you want to move to. TRAI has forwarded the responsibility to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to select an operator who will be licensed to manage an end-to-end MNP solution.

The MNP system has been in action for a long period in other countries such as Australia and UK. The arrival of the new system in India will definitely make mobile network operators stay on guard as the subscriber has the flexibility to move out of their network at any time. Mobile network operators will have to face this huge hurdle and will have to improve upon their customer service and products to be the best if they wish to retain their esteemed customers.
