Battery exhaustion is a major concern of mobile phone users these days. To solve this problem, Toshiba recently proclaimed direct methanol fuel-cell product Dynario. The external power source rejuvenates mobile digital consumer products.

A dedicated fuel cartridge for refueling is also made available. With the addition of more and more functionality like TV reception and Internet connectivity on the handsets, the power consumption of the phones has increased considerably.

Dynario and its fuel cartridge acts in accordance with International Electrotechnical Commission’s safety standards. Dynario’s DMFC offers instant refueling and it runs on a mix of methanol and ambient oxygen, the chemical reaction between the two in the fuel cell produces electricity.

When the methanol solution is added from the cartridge, Dynario produces electricity which is transferred via a USB cable. Once refilled with methanol, the Dynario can generate power to charge two typical mobile phones. Further, performance is also enhanced by Dynario’s hybrid structure that employs a lithium-ion battery charged by the fuel cell to store electricity.

The Dynario (DMFC) is retailed for 29,800 yen, while a set of five fuel cartridge costs 3,150 yen. The device will be exclusively available via Toshiba’s direct-order website for digital consumer products in the Japanese market, Shop1048. The DMFC along with the cartridge will be made available in a limited edition of 3,000 units only. Users can now order the device and is expected to start shipping from October 29.
