After the recently announced Pocketbook A7, another eReader namely the Toshiba BookPlace DB50 has found its way across the news headlines. This tablet has now been unveiled for Japan and is powered by the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread OS.

Offering 7.5 hours of battery life, the Toshiba mobile device is embedded with a 7-inch color TFT LCD touchscreen display featuring LED backlight and a 600 × 1024p resolution while operating on a 1GHz Freescale i.MX535 CPU. It comes incorporated with 1GM of RAM and lets users store various kinds of multimedia content such as music, videos, pictures or documents in the 8GB of internal storage space that it provides.

Measuring 190mm × 120mm × 11mm, the BookPlace DB50 possesses a different hardware design as compared to other tablets owing to the five buttons that it comes integrated with namely, home, menu, back, continue and volume. The ivory white slate weighs 330g and is capable of lending support to various connectivity options like USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. It gives users easy access to the Toshiba BookPlace store boasting of more than 43,000 Japanese e-books and magazines. The company states that the number of eBooks will be increasing to 1, 00,000 by March.

According to TechCrunch, the Toshiba BookPlace DB50 eReader price is tagged at $284 and it is expected to hit the Japanese market on February 10. Those who purchase the device will be entitled to receive a $64 coupon to buy eBooks from the BookPlace store.
