The Mozilla Firefox OS-based ZTE Open has gone official in Spain through Telefónica who plans to sell a horde of devices running this platform in the country. The ZTE gadget is now available through Movistar and is bundled along with a microSD card with 4GB of storage capacity. And that’s not all, pre-paid customers who choose to buy the phone will also receive a recharge coupon of €30, free of charge.
Aimed at first time smartphone users as well as budget-conscious people, the ZTE Open which already claims to bring a number of features will receive updates over-the-air for additional ones in the near future. The Firefox OS which is the driving force behind the handset has been built using open web standards and it claims to adapt easily to customers’ needs, thanks to its search capabilities.
Coming to the specifications of the handset, it has been fitted with a TFT screen of HVGA resolution which offers a multi-touch real estate of 3.5 inches on the front side. The phone seems to be devoid of a front camera, but casual photographers can utilize the rear-facing 3.2MP snapper for capturing decent-quality images and videos.
Furthermore, there’s 256MB of RAM and 512MB of ROM with an expansion slot for a microSD card for increasing the memory further, probably by up to 32GB. A single core MSM7225A processor supervises the internal working, while a 1200mAh battery is responsible for keeping the gadget powered up for a long period time.
The smartphone also boasts of Bluetooth, GPS and Wi-Fi and has been deployed with an accelerometer and an ambient light sensor. All the common apps for messaging, email, calendar, FM radio and more can be found in the gadget along with the Nokia Here maps application for accurate turn-by-turn navigation.
The Open is now available in Spain for a price of €69. Zero interest financing is available for post-paid connections at €2.38 per month for a period of two years.
