Tata Docomo to reduce 2G and 3G data tariff rates by 90 percent from July 1

Smartphone owners in India are in for a treat as one by one, all telecom operators are slashing their data charges and the latest carrier to make it to the list is none other than Tata Docomo. Just like its rivals companies such as Vodafone, Airtel and Idea Cellular, Tata Docomo has decided to cut prices of tariff rates and it has gone ahead and introduced 90 percent discounts.

But as opposed to all the other aforementioned companies, the network provider in question has extended the offer to its 3G connections as well. It will be applicable to volume-based charging tariffs and will come into effect on July 1. Thus, only customers who recharge their devices with one of the available coupons can make the most of these offers.

The Tata Docomo scheme takes 2G coupons of Rs 126, Rs 149 and Rs 249 under its wings along with 3G data pack of Rs 225. They offer 2GB, 2.5GB and 3GB free 2G internet, respectively, while the 3G tariff brings 2GB of mobile internet, free of charge. And except the Rs 249 recharge which is valid for 60 days, all the others have a validity of 30 days. It should apply to a number of other recharge coupons as well.

After subscribers finish their free downloads, the slashed rates will kick in and they will be charged merely 1 paisa for 10 kilobytes usage. This earlier set them back by 10 paisa per 10KB. All existing pre-paid GSM customers will be able to browse the web for lower charges and new customers who sign up for a pre-paid number can also take advantage of the offer. Sadly, post-paid users will not be given this benefit for now.

The news about Tata Docomo’s decision to reduce its 2G and 3G data rates for pre-paid customers by 90 percent comes on the heels of similar announcements by Vodafone, Airtel and Idea Cellular.
