ST-Ericsson Thor M5720 modem steps in for T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

ST-Ericsson Logo We last caught a sight of ST-Ericsson when it made an appearance in the technological space with its NovaThor family of smartphone platforms. The company has now announced that a sleek modem from the Thor lineup will enhance power network connectivity for the new T-Mobile Sidekick 4G by Samsung.

The handset uses ST-Ericsson Thor M5720 compact and power-efficient modem which renders download speeds of around 21MB/s to connect to the internet. Users can enjoy a leveraged mobile experience with innovative and unique fucntionalities.

“Combining America’s Largest 4G Network with ST-Ericsson’s modems in our latest smartphones provides a lightning-fast mobile experience for T-Mobile customers on both the Galaxy S 4G and the new T-Mobile Sidekick 4G,” commented Andrew Sherrard, Senior Vice President, Product Management, T-Mobile USA.

“The Thor M5720 is the first modem in the industry to enable the development of 21 Mbps smartphones without compromising size and power consumption, resulting in an outstanding wireless experience for T-Mobile USA’s customers,” remarked Jörgen Lantto, Executive Vice President, Chief Technology Officer of ST-Ericsson. “T-Mobile USA and ST-Ericsson are working together to bring even higher data rates to market including 42 and 84Mbps for future devices on Thor platforms, enabling T-Mobile to fully harness the step change in capacity and performance made possible by next generation mobile networks.”

T-Mobile previously rolled out the Samsung Galaxy S 4G smartphone integrated with the Thor M5720 modem for advanced connectivity via T-Mobile’s 4G network. The Thor M5720 claims to be the first modem in the market to uplift the development of 21MB/s smartphones.

The T-Mobile Sidekick 4G by Samsung is anticipated to hit shelves later this spring.
