Sprint has launched a new service dubbed My Wireless STS to aid people with speech impairment, in making calls. Concerned users simply have to dial a wireless code that reads *787 to receive operator assistance for initiating calls.

With this service, a Speech to Speech (STS) operator repeats each word spoken by the person with disabilities to the individual on the other end of the line. The user can instruct the operator to speak out each and every word or only the pronunciations that are unclear. This free facility is accessible in any part of the world and does not require a special instrument for making calls. It is available 24 hours a day and on all the 365 days of the year.

“We are very excited to announce *787 – a service that’s tailored to the needs of STS users. We are the first in the industry to bring this service to market, and we’re pleased to have developed it in collaboration with speech disabled communities across the country,” commented Michael Ellis, Director, Sprint Relay.

Another feature called My Email Set-up has also been launched for My Wireless STS users to make the experience more comfortable. Considering that long calls may render people with impairments weary, this facility allows them to mail all the details of the call to the corresponding operator. The data ought to be transferred to the operator 2 to 24 hours before the call is made.

The details could include the name of the opposite person, the topic of discussion, the phone number and other relevant information that would make it easy for the operator to lead the conversation. Apart from the aforementioned features, STS users can take advantage of a committed customer service that provides them with personal assistance, ways of accessing the facility and helps them in registering their calling preferences.

The My Wireless STS service is accessible to Sprint users now.
