Sprint HTC EVO 3DEver wondered if a movie like Avatar could be watched without 3D viewing glasses? Well almost! Sprint now enlightens users on some exciting 3D content that will be tagged along the HTC EVO 3D smartphone. The handset is the first 4G phone comprising of a 4.3-inch qHD 3D display for a glasses-free 3D viewing experience.

The smartphone runs on Android 2.3, and is fuelled by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon dual core processor. 3D images and videos get the desired effect with the included dual, rear-facing 5-megapixel cameras along with access to general content, social networks and streaming video. It also features a front facing 1.3-megapixel camera that enables video chat.

“When HTC EVO 3D launches this summer, it will introduce our customers to exciting new capabilities that will appeal to consumers. When combined with Wi-Fi and the Sprint 4G Network, HTC EVO 3D offers an innovative user experience that will give our customers the ability to play games, watch movies, take pictures and video chat in 3D right in the palm of their hand,” commented Steve Elfman, president-Network Operations, Product and Wholesale, Sprint.

3D movie enthusiasts can watch The Green Hornet 3D preloaded in the microSD slot out of the box for a limited period along with the purchase of the gadget. It also offers a movie app which gives access to 2D and 3D movies including television programs. Movies can be bought or rented and downloaded as well. The HTC cloud can store a maximum of five movies, and content bought through the HTC Watch application is compatible with other HTC devices too.

It additionally features the Blockbuster On Demand app that opens up the user to a wide range of 3D titles by offering one of the largest catalog of movies. The 4.3-inch screen ensures an enhanced quality movie experience to the watcher. Movies can be purchased or rented and directly downloaded to the smartphone. Drive Angry, starring Nicolas Cage, will be one of the first action-packed 3D titles available for viewing.

What’s more, the gadget provides 3D gaming too. For starters, the device will be loaded with a 3D demo version of the Ultimate Spider-Man: Total Mayhem. The inbuilt Gameloft Storefront is further claimed to be a storehouse of an array of 2D and 3D games. The Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles and GT Racing Motor Academy are the two games that will be available at the time of launch.

Additionally, this HTC phone ensures 3D HD (720p) video capture to keep the user involved in action and is easily transferrable to Youtube, Facebook or Internet Live via Qik. In the absence of a capable 3D device the content would automatically convert to 2D.

Rentals for the HTC Watch app range from $2.99 to $3.99 and purchase starts at $8.99. Rentals for the Blockbuster On Demand app range from $2.99 to $3.99 each, and purchases are $4.99 and up. 3D and 2D games are available for purchase from the Gameloft Storefront for $4.99.
