Sony recently placed the Xperia ZR under the limelight, while touting the smartphone’s water-proof and dust-resistant qualities. One may count the smartphone to fall under the same category as that of the company’s latest flagship, owing to its nature of resisting water. But the Z is IP57 certified, while the upcoming handset has been built to the IP55 and IP58 certification.
The former has been crafted to survive a 1 meter dip in water for up to 30 minutes, whereas the Sony Xperia ZR should continue working even after being submerged in water beyond 1 meter. Apart from the phone’s ability to endure under such circumstances, the manufacturer has deliberated on its camera functionality.
Offering a 13MP sensor, the main Exmor RS snapper packs a range of features such as autofocus, 16x digital zoom and 1080p video recording capability even underwater. Users’ video conferencing needs will be taken care of by a VGA webcam which shares space with a 4.55-inch capacitive touch HD display on the face of the device.
The gadget runs Android Jelly Bean out of the box and gains momentum from the onboard Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor which ticks at a clock speed of up to 1.5GHz. Alongside internal memory of 8GB which can be increased by slipping a microSD card of up to 32GB into the embedded expansion slot, there exists 2GB of RAM.
At present, the website does not disclose the integrated battery’s capacity. However, the company was seen speaking about the inclusion of a Stamina mode. This contributes towards lesser power consumption by shutting down apps while the screen’s off. Even though the manufacturer has given the Sony Xperia ZR official recognition, it has not made a statement regarding the smartphone’s price or release date. But it has outlined the whole of the second quarter as the launch window for multiple markets.
