Sony Xperia SP and Xperia L release date officially set for Q2 2013

The Sony Xperia SP and Xperia L have got announced for the UK and the official word is that a release date will fall sometime in Q2 this year. The former comes with 4G LTE and an HD screen, while the latter is capable of HDR for both photos and videos. And they carry over a few things from the flagship Z smartphone such as the battery stamina mode and NFC connectivity.

The SP is the higher model of the two and has a 4.6-inch scratch-resistant touch screen which displays images and video at a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. That would constitute an HD Reality Display for sharper picture and improved brightness, and is complimented by the Mobile Bravia Engine 2. It has been built around a precision-crafted aluminum frame and features a transparent element which can change color for an added level of personalization.

A 1.7GHz dual core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor should keep things running smoothly, and while an exact battery capacity is not known, the company claims it can deliver almost as much as 19 hours of talk time or about 734 hours of standby time. Battery stamina mode or not, that is an impressive attribute.

The L has a 4.3-inch TFT screen, sharing visuals at an 854 x 480 pixel resolution. Unfortunately, and this might be off-putting to some, it will have just a 12-key on-screen keyboard. A dual core 1GHz Qualcomm processor keeps power consumption down, leading to a talk time of eight and a half hours.

Both run on Android 4.1 and come with Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, native USB tethering and Wi-Fi hotspot. Each sports an 8MP main camera with an Exmor RS sensor capable of auto focus. But the SP can record video in 1080p, while the L model is only capable of 720p. In addition, there is a webcam of VGA resolution on the front. Memory specs are also shared. Both have 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage with microSD expansion of up to 32GB possible.

Official price details of the Sony Xperia SP and Xperia L have not been revealed, but we’ll probably have to wait just a little longer for the same as the second quarter launch date approaches. We earlier saw the phones get unofficial listings via e-retailers in the country.
