Sony Xperia E1, Xperia T2 Ultra and their dual SIM variants make an unexpected debut

Sony hasn’t been ignoring the mid-range market, so we’re not surprised to see that the new Xperia E1, the Xperia T2 Ultra and their dual SIM versions are built for the said segment. It’s just, we weren’t expecting these devices to pop up at that awkward time post-CES (Consumer Electronics Show) and pre-MWC (Mobile World Congress).

But Sony is at least trying to make sure these modestly-specced smartphones get some much needed attention before the MWC sweeps everyone off their feet. Emerging markets in China, the Middle East, Africa and the Asia Pacific are being flooded with large screen handsets at budget prices and this is what the company may be aiming for with the Xperia T2 Ultra and its dual SIM sibling.

The LTE-capable Xperia device has a 6-inch Triluminos touchscreen and a 1.4GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Another one of its highlighted features is the 13MP rear camera with Exmor RS for mobile which should please most casual photography buffs. The rest of the specifications span over 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, support for a 32GB microSD card and a 3000mAh battery.

Just like the aforementioned, the Xperia E1 (and dual SIM version) also feasts on Android Jelly Bean. Fitted with the basics most would look for in a wallet-friendly smartphone, it shows off a 4-inch display and a 3MP main camera. The handset works with merely 512MB RAM and a 1.2GHz dual core chip. Its onboard memory reads 4GB and 32GB extra space is all its microSD card slot can accommodate.
