Sony Ericsson reveals Xperia X8 and software upgrades for the X10 series

Sony Ericsson surely knows how to keep mobile lovers on their feet. Fans of the company’s Xperia series have been treated this time around. Just recently, the company added the new Xperia X8 in its league of mobile phones reflecting uniqueness and easy-to-use features. Additionally, the X10 series will also be getting software upgrades from Q3 of 2010 in the selected markets.

The Xperia X8 features a 3 inch touchscreen and user interface similar to that of the Xperia X10 mini. The handset offers access to favorite or rather regular used applications effortlessly thanks to the four corner touch. It is incorporated with a 3.2 MP camera and a 3.5mm headphone jack as well. Moreover users can download and search songs through the PlayNow attribute.

The Android-based X8 supports the GSM GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900, UMTS HSPA 900/2100 and UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900/2100 networks. Users also gain the opportunity to access a wide array of apps from the Android market like games and video clips from YouTube. While being able to seamlessly access social networking sites courtesy the Timescape feature, the infinite button allows one click access to an array of content.

Timo Maassmann, Product Marketing Manager for XperiaTM X8, stated, “We are delighted to be able to bring the full experience of our XperiaTM smartphones to new consumers by delivering a fully featured device at a more accessible price point.”

Furthermore, the X10 portfolio mainly the X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro will be powered by the Android 2.1 operating system in selected markets around Q3. The Xperia X10 will be added with the HD video recording feature in the same upgrade. In Q4, the same handset will also be enhanced with the Timescape and Mediascape applications while also being able to display content on the television wirelessly.

The X10 series offers users entertainment with a host of functionality. This includes varied apps, maps, email and a speedy internet connection. The Xperia X10 features an 8.1 megapixel camera with a 4 inch touchscreen for better viewing and multimedia creation. The Xperia lineup is added with the human curvature design technology showcasing a choice of size and style.

The pricing details of the Xperia X8 are yet not clear, though it should be available in select markets from Q3.
